SSAT Prep Plan
The SSAT (Secondary School Admission Test) is a standardized test used by independent and private schools to evaluate applicants. The Upper Level exam is for students in grades 8–11 and covers Verbal, Quantitative (Math), Reading Comprehension, and Writing sections over approximately 3 hours.
The SSAT Upper Level has 150 scored questions: 60 Verbal (synonyms and analogies), 50 Quantitative (two sections of 25 questions each), and 40 Reading Comprehension questions, plus an unscored Writing Sample.
SSAT scaled scores range from 500–800 per section (1500–2400 total). Competitive private schools typically look for students scoring in the 75th–99th percentile compared to same-grade test-takers.
Most students benefit from 8–12 weeks of consistent preparation, spending 45–90 minutes per day on vocabulary, math, reading practice, and timed mock exams.
